A bit like visiting Tibet, without leaving Nepal. The Tsum Valley is one of the lest trodden jewels Nepal has to offer, without needing tents. Our program takes you through a wild mountain landscape, past Tibetan refugee settlements, where we visit active Gompas (monasteries) and experience the rhythm of Himalayan rural life – ending almost on the border of Tibet.
Day 01: Welcome to Kathmandu (1360m). Airport transfer to your hotel, trek preparation meeting with your guide, and a typical Nepali welcome dinner.
Day 02: Breakfast, followed by half a day sightseeing. Afternoon, trek preparation, shopping etc.
Day 03: (1). Very early morning drive, 7 to 8 hours, to Arughat (600m) and then a further hours’ drive to Soti Khola (700m). Grateful to arrive at our ‘hotel’, after an exhausting drive.
Day 04: (2). We are in the lowlands, so you can expect the day to be hot and humid, as we follow the river bank, to reach Khorla Besi (825m).
Day 05: (3). We continue along the side of the Budhi Gandaki River for about 7 to 8 hours to reach the large village of Jagat (1330m). This is the entrance to the Manaslu Conservation National Park, and last chance to buy anything we may have forgotten.
Day 06: (4). Today we use 5 to 6 hours to reach Lokpa (2240m). Here the trail splits, one trail goes around Manaslu, but tomorrow we chose to take the right hand path and enter The Tsum Valley.
Day 07: (5). Our destination today, with views of Ganesh Himal as we progress, is Chhekampar (3030m). Here we can visit the monastery, dedicated to Mila Repa, an important spiritual deity of the Buddhist people.
Day 08: (6). We really enter Tibetan Buddhist country now, with many chhortens and mani walls, and with prayer flags flapping in the wind. We spend the night in Nile (3360m), where there is also a Gompa.
Day 09: (7). Early morning we start our ascent to Mu Gompa (3700m). From here we are treated to excellent views from the old monastery. Then we descend and back track to Lamagoon (3305m).
Day 10: (8). We now return along the same path, but things look different, and you get an extra opportunity to take that photo you missed on the way up. Reach Chumling (2385m).
Day 11: (9). Still descending we reach the village of Philim (1570m).
Day 12: (10). Khorla Besi (970m) is our destination today.
Day 13: (11). Today we trek for 6-7 hours to Soti Khola (700m), and treks end.
Day 14: (12). We now take that horrific, some like it, drive back to Kathmandu and a well-deserved hot shower and cold beer.
Day 15: Sightseeing, shopping or you decide to depart.
