The Foreigner (Protected Areas) Act requires foreigner to obtain a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to enter certain area in Nepal. In order to obtain permit, travelers must need certain requirement. Such restriction is imposed due to security reasons.
To help protect the fragile environment and cultural heritage, Restricted Area Permits are required and trekkers must accompany registered guide and must be in at least two in a group. Mustang region and Kanchenjunga region is possible to conduct in teahouse mode while Dolpo region require full camping with several night spending on high pastures.
Restricted area trekking in Nepal is challenging; requires high-fitness and stamina but the rewards are simply mesmerizing.
Restricted Area Trekking Permit must be purchased from the Department of Immigration, Kalikasthan, and Kathmandu.
