Profile of Snow Dragons Nepal's guides and staff.
Nima Chhedar Lama, one of the two founding partners of Snow Dragons Nepal Treks pvt Ltd.
'I grew up in Chipuwa, a small village in the Makalu National Park area, in East Nepal. I received attende the village school and successfully completed my School Leaving Certificate. Like many youth from the isolated areas I migrated to Kathmandu to look for work. With my mountain background it was natural that I started trekking. First I was a porter, then an assistant cook, then I became an assistant guide. Then on completing the NTB Trek Guide program, I became a full time certified trekking guide.'
Nima has trekked in virtually all the main mountain areas of Nepal over the last twenty years.
Including Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Solo Khumbu, Rowaling, Helambu and Langtang, Manaslu and Tsum Valley, Naar Phu, Annapurna Circuit and Sanctuary, plus Mustang and Dolpa. In addition he has climbed four of the trekking peaks, Island Peak, Mera Peak, Yalla Peak and Pogaldal. In addition I have sublimitet Manaslu, as Climbing Guide for a successful Korean Expedition (2011) -where he was 'honored' for saving the life of an expedition member in incredibly difficult conditions.
He has completed a number of courses with NTB, KEEP and attended the Khumbu Climbing Course, organized by the Alex Lowe Foundation, receiving Level 1, with Honors.
He lives in Kathmandu with his wife, Rijkma, and their daughter, Sonam.
In addition to the four guides noted above we have chhiring Sherpa, who as the names suggests comes from the Everest region of Nepal, as our fifth main guide.
However, we are able to call upon a range of experienced guides, cooks and of course trustworthy porters.
All our Guides are experienced cooks (and for smaller groups they usually do the cooking as well), for larger groups we have Durba Bhote, who has cooked for a number of expeditions - and is renowned for his varied menu.
We are a small company, but we are able to call upon some of Nepals most experienced climbing and trekking guides, assistant guides, cooks and porters.
We wish you welcome to Nepal - Team Snow Dragons of Nepal.
Climbing and Trekking Guide Reidar Bhote.
Reidar is one of Nepals most experienced guides - both trekking and in climbing - having for example summited Everest four times, as well as Lhotse and a number of trekking peaks. He is famous for his good humor, and excellent singing voice.
David Durkan -
Mountain Guide and world traveler, with over 40 visits to Nepal, as hippy, tour and climbing guide. Running a trek and climbing company for over 30 years, he has taken over 1200 clients to altitude. As a policy he trained his own guides, in Nepal and in Norway, to allow them to obtain NTB Certification, with one reaching U.I.A.A. standard.
Temba was 'one of Dave's-boys' - a sign of excellence, and he recruited Nima to join him in forming their own company: Snow Dragons.
David, along with Thorstein Nokelby (Norwegian Mountain Man) advises on programs and acclimatizing issues. David is available (durkandavid@gmail.com) for any specific questions clients may have.
Climbing and Trekking Guide Chheden Lama.
Has also climbed Everest, twice, plus over a dozen other peaks, including some first ascents. Like the owners he comes from the Makalu district, and like Nima and Temba he as trecked virtually every trek in Nepal.
