Lobuche Peak Climbing

It’s always further than it looks, it’s always harder that it looks, it’s always taller than it looks and of course it’s always more rewarding and dramatic than you dreamt.

Rising to the height of 6,119m, Lobuche Peak climb is reckoned to be one of adventurous and challenging trekking peak in Everest region. Lobuche Peak climbing provides long fabled sceneries of mountains in Everest region and equally for wild adventure, cultural discovery and lifetime experience. With the demanding Alpine V class climbing requirement and partially technical ice climb, Lobuche peak expedition draws the attention of global trotters from all over the world.

Climbing trip to Lobuche offers both amateur and seasoned climber the opportunity to trek and climb through variety of existing routes and new challenging climbing routes. Our Lobuche Peak expedition itinerary allows proper acclimatization and climbing preparation for safe and successful ascent of the peak. As we approach the high base camp at 5400m, we get stunning panorama of Ama Dablam, Tawache and many other peaks.

The summit expedition to Lobuche peak includes climbing on a rocky surface for up to around 5770m and further climbs on ice and use ropes when necessary. The use of ropes depends on the season and the crevasses. We use fixed rope at the most of the climbing trail whereas main rope is used whenever required. Our Lobuche Peak climbing leader will decide what is best for when.

Snow Dragons Nepal provides full-supported tented camping with EXPED down filled mattress for extra comfort. Our expert cook will accompany you to serve all fresh, hygienic and tasty food. As safety is our major concern, we provide Portable Altitude Chamber (PAC) or Oxygen cylinder along with medical kit and satellite phone for communication in case of any emergency.

Pre-climb Training

Our expert and professional climbing leader will provide you training on peak climbing techniques and the best way to use the climbing gears like ice axe, climbing boots, crampons, harness, ascender, descender, ropes etc. We strongly believe that the pre-climbing training will boost up the skills and confidence that increases the chances of summiting the peak safely and successfully.

Day 01: Welcome to Nepal. Airport pick up and transfer to your hotel, followed by trip planning (permits, equipment check etc).

Day 02: After breakfast, we visit to Syambhunath (Monkey Temple) and gain a view of Kathmandu valley and the city. The afternoon is free to explore and shop, with a quick trip-planning meet before bed.

Day 03: (1). Very early breakfast, followed by the scenic mountain flight to Lukla (2800 m), with your guide. Here you meet your porters, and together trek downhill for 4 hours to the riverside settlement of Phakding (2600m).

Day 04: (2). We take a leisurely trek through the alpine landscape, passing small villages on the way, to enter the Sagarmatha National Park, at Monjo. From here we continue to Jorsalle (2800m) to spend the night.

Day 05: (3). Now our path takes us alongside a rushing river, before we cross the photogenic ‘Namche Swing Bridge’. From here we the start the steep ascent in the cool morning air, to reach Namche Bazaar (3450m), in time for lunch.

Day 06: (4). Rest and acclimatization day in the capital of the Sherpa people. Shop, chill out, wander the back streets. We suggest a visit to the National Park Museum, and/or to The Everest View Hotel (3800m).

Day 07: (5).We follow a gentle path, mesmerized by increadable views, to then descend steeply to reach Phunki, for lunch. From here we continue steeply uphill to reach Tengboche (3860m), and a 360 degree Himalayan view, that includes Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. We visit Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the  Khumbu region.

Day 08: (6). The path now takes us through birch, conifers and rhododendron forests, to reach Pangboche, for lunch. From here we continue to Pheriche (4240m). Note: If you add our recommended Dragon Egg Plus, we would split this day, staying in Upper Pangboche, before continuing to Pheriche. Less tiring, and more gradual height gain.

Day 09: (7). Today we follow the valley floor before beginning a steep ascent to Duglha (4620m), passing Phulug Karpa, one of the camp sites of the first successful Everest expedition.

Day 10: (8). We ascend the terminal moraine of the famous Khumbu Glacier and weave our way through its boulder-strewn slopes to reach the klondike-like settlement of Lobuche (4910m).

Day 11: (9). We ascend via a moon-like landscape to reach Gorakshep (5140m). Here you can choose a half day rest or continue to The Everest Base Camp. Return to Gorakshep for the night.

Day 12: (10). Early morning ascent of Kalapatthar (5550m), to witness the sunrise. Few views in 'trekking Nepal' can compare to this. Descend slowly (remember you are at altitude) to Lobuche.

Day 13: (11). A gentle start that soon becomes steeper and rocky, to reach Lobuche Base Camp. Equipment check, pre-climbing training.

Day 14: (12). It is advisable to summit the peak before noon because of strong winds/weather changes. Hence we start at around 1 AM! Your reward: What a day! What an amazing summit! What views!!!

Day 15: (13). Built in Dragon Egg Reserve, in case the group wishes an extra acclimatization day at Lobuche Base Camp, or because of sickness, bad weather etc on the approach. In the even of this day not being used, the return to Lukla can be at a more gentle and enjoyable pace.

Day 16: (14). Trek downhill to join the main Everest trail at Lobuche, and continue to Pangboche.

Day 17: (15).  An tough day ahead, yes, yet we reach Namche Bazaar intoxicated with the extra oxygen, ready to sample fresh ground coffee and Mom's Apple Pie! Or a cold beer or two.

Day 18: (16). Namche to Lukla, and dinner with our hardy porters and guides.

Day 19: (17). Fly back to Kathmandu. Afternoon free.

Day 20: (18). Free/reserve day, in case of flight delay from Lukla. Visit temples, shop until you drop - or just rest in the hotels garden.

Day 21: (19). Depart

Dragon Eggs Plus-

We have already built in two additional days, more than many standard itineraries. These are Trek day (3) (acclimatization), and (13) (reserve). 90% of programs offer Lukla to Namchie in 2 days, and many experience altitude sickness at a higher level because of this'too high, to fast' standardprogram. This risk can be reduced, but not eliminated, by using an extra day before Namchie.

In addition we would suggest one extra day between Tengboche and Phereche. So giving better acclimatization and more time to savor and experience the landscape, the people and the areas culture.
