Gosainkunda Helambu Trek offers a great opportunity for trekkers to explore the Himalayan pass, pristine valley and diverse ethnic culture along with high altitude lakes.
Langtang region is the 3rd most popular trekking region in Nepal after Everest and Annapurna. The Langtang region is the closest hiking destination from Kathmandu and has its border with Tibet. It is often called as the best kept Himalayan secrets of Nepal.
Though easily accessible from Kathmandu, the region remains relatively unspoiled and intact compared to other destination in Nepal. Few days of hike through dense forest and cultural villages takes you the pleasant pastureland of Kyangjin Gompa. Then we trek further to the holy Gosainkunda Lake with the great views of Himalayas ahead. Crossing a high mountain pass leads us to the cultural village of Helambu.
The holi lake of Gosainkunda is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus and Buddhist. Hindu mythology believes this lake as the abode of the Hindu deities Shiva and Gauri. The lake have been created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishul (holy Trident) into mountain to extract water so that he could quench thirst after he swallowed poison.
Gosainkunda Helambu Trek introduces the first timer’s to Nepal’s gigantic mountain ranges including the Langtang Himal. Apart from stunning scenery, this trek also offers an opportunity to experience local lifestyle and culture. It is surprisingly quiet and a favorite among our guides.
Crossing of Lauribina Pass at 4,620m with the view of Tibet is fascinating. As we enter Helambu, we will experience a great Tamang culture, their lifestyle, way of agriculture and architecture at various revered sites.
We spend our night at teahouse which allows us to get in-depth knowledge about local culture and lifetime. We assure you that Langtang village is safe to trek more than ever. A professional guide along with a crew ensures a full-support and deal with any problems that arise which on the trek.
Day 01: Welcome to Nepal. Airport pick up and transfer to your hotel, followed by a trip planning session (permits, equipment check ( etc)
Day 02: After breakfast, we visit to Syambhunath (Monkey Temple) and gain a view of Kathmandu valley and city. The afternoon is free to explore and shop, with a quick trip-planning meet before bed.
Day 03: (1). Early morning drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, the starting point of the Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek.
Day 04: (2). A series of ascents and descents through the oak and rhododendron forests, eventually brings us to the Langtang Khola (river), where we make steep climb to Lama Hotel 2390m).
Day 05: (3). Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang via Mundu village (3470m)
Day 06: (4). Our goal today is Kyangjin Gompa (3830m), along the way we pass water mills, prayer wheels, chortens and mani walls, all with holy inscriptions carved in.
Day 07: (5). An acclimatization day at Kyangjin Gompa, where we hike to Tserko Ri for excellent mountain views.
Day 08: (6). Retrace our steps back to Lama Hotel
Day 09: (7). We now head off to Thulo Syabru (2210m) via Rimche Village.
Day 10: (8). Take a short hike to Shin Gompa (3330m), which takes 3-4 hours
Day 11: (9). Today is a steep ascent, but along the way the views of the Annapurnas, Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang, more than make up for the hardwork. We reach Gosainkunda (4165m). This holy lake has important religious and cultural significance for Hindus and is one of Nepal’s most prized pilgrimage sites. Here you will see pilgrims from all over Nepal and India, coming to pray and to meditate by the side of its waters..
Day 12: (10). Another strenuous day, via the Laurebina Pass (4610m) to reach Ghopte (3530m).
Day 13: (11). We wander along a roll-a-costa trail to reach the interesting village of Melamchegaon (2530m).
Day 14: (12). Trek from Melamchigaon to Tarkeghyang, with its stupa and prayer flags adorning the hill.
Day 15: (13). Trek to Serrmathang, with the incredible back drop and Langtang range.
Day 15: (13) Trek from Tarkeghyang to Sermathang via easy trail through lush forest, beautiful villages, chortens, monasteries and mani walls.
Day 16: (14). Trek to Melamchi Bazaar and take a short drive back to Kathmandu.
Day 17: shopping day
Day 18: Stay a day in Kathmandu, or departure.
