Ghorepani and Annapurna Base Camp Trek – A perfect introduction to remote Nepal and its Himalayan profile!

Ghorepani and Annapurna Base Camp Trek takes you deep inside Annapurna Conservation Area and lets you explore its Himalayan peaks and intriguing culture. This trek takes you to foot of Annapurna (world’s tenth highest peak) via most popular Poon Hill route.

Poon Hill itself is most popular destination in Annapurna region and joining it to ABC, makes it more spectacular. It is a lifetime experience that takes you deep into the mountain and lets you explore two base camps – Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp.

From stunning Himalayan Panorama to enticing culture and diverse eco-system, this trek is full of Himalayan discoveries. Very few treks in Nepal incorporates such a great diversity and takes you to the base camp 8,000m+ peak in such a short time period like Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

Ghorepani and Annapurna Base Camp Trek usually takes 12 – 15 day, which depends on the itinerary and length of walking. The itinerary offered by Snow Dragons Nepal, starts from Nayapul (1.5 hours drive from Pokhara) and goes north up to Ghorepani and the popular viewpoint at Poon Hill. From Ghorepani, you will climb east to Chomrong and then head north again entering the Modi Khola valley which leads up to the Annapurna BC.

You will stay at local teahouse which provides an opportunity to experience the culture and lifestyle of people in firsthand. Magar and Gurung are the major inhabitants of the region: they are known for the warmness and hospitality. They are also famous for their bravery in British Gurkha Regiment.

Poon Hill

Poon Hill at 3,210m is a famous hilltop viewpoint known for stretching view of Himalayas and tantalizing sunrise. A pre-dawn hike from Ghorepani takes you to this physical landmark: offering magnificent sunrise and 70km panoramic Himalayas that includes Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Fish-tailed, sacred Machhapuchhre and Manaslu.

Annapurna Base Camp

The setting of ABC at 4,130m is uniquely spectacular; nestled amidst the majestic peaks of Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m) and Hiunchuli (6,441m). Below is a large U-shaped glacier valley.

Day 01: Welcome to Nepal. Airport pick up and hotel transfer, trip planning (permits, equipment check etc).

Day 02: After breakfast, we visit to Syambhunath (Monkey Temple) and gain a view of Kathmandu valley and city. The afternoon is free to explore and shop, with a quick trip-planning meet before bed.

Day 03:(1) Very early drive from Kathmandu (1360m) to Pokhara (900m), lunch on way. Hotel, and explore the Lake Side bistros.

Dragon Day Saver: An alternative Day 3 is to fly to Pokhara, continue to NayaPul (1070m), by taxi. From here we trek to Tikhedhunga (1500m). Lodge/dinner. Reaching Ghorepani evening of day 4.

Day 04: (2). Taxi to NayaPul (1070m), then trek to Urerry (2020m). Lodge/dinner.

Day 05: (3). Trek uphill to Ghorepani (2800m). Possibly followed by entertainment, with traditional music and dance, by a local cultural group. Can be that we experience amazing sunset views.

Day 06: (4) A very early pre-breakfast walk up Poon Hill (3193m), hopefully to enjoy a spectacular sunrise view. After breakfast, we trek downwards, through forest-covered hillsides, to reach Tadapani (2630m).

Day 07: (5). The trail continues downwards to Chomrong (2170m), a large Gurung village.

Day 08: (6). Some call it jungle, others ‘The Bamboo trek’, and we reach Doban (2600m).

Day 09: (7). Doban to Himalaya (2920m) for lunch, then we continue to Deurali (3230m).

Day 10: (8). Today we aim for Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m), where we spend the night, or continue to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m).

Day 11: (9). Early morning trip up to Annapurna BC, then after a late breakfast we trek down to Bambo (2310m).

Day 12:(10). Downhill to Jhinu Danda (1780m), small hot springs.

Day 13: (11). We reach Naya Pula and drive back to Pokhara (local bus or taxi). Here you are free to explore the Lake area and sample the abundant selection of fine bistros and restaurants.

Day 14: Try paragliding, visit the Mountain Museum or The White Stupa (for great views), or simply take a few hours to relax. Late afternoon we take the flight back to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel - farewell dinner with guide

Day 15: Free day in Kathmandu, or departure (please specify when booking).
