The Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is one of the great classic trekking routes of Nepal, incorporating lowland green forests, leading to an arid alpine area surrounded by a host of impressive peaks. This rich majesty of nature is enhanced by a diversity of cultures, the area being the home of the Gurung and Magar peoples.
Annapurna was the first 8000mtr peak climbed, in 1950, by a French expedition, and at 8091m, it is the 10th highest peak of the world. The complex massive consists of 13 peaks over 7000m and 16 over 6000m, plus numerous glaciers and rugged ridge systems, deep valleys and raging rivers.
From Kathmandu we reach Pokhera, the ‘Venice of the Himalaya’, where the peaks are reflected in the waters of Lake Phewa. Our trek takes us to the hill top village of Ghorepani (2800m), and the early morning view point of Poon Hill (3210m). Here you can gaze into the world’s deepest valley, The Kaligandaki, or ‘Black George’, and view Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Machhapuchhre. After breakfast, our trail wanders through a forest-wonderland, visiting small hill villages, to eventually reach The Sanctuary itself.
